Crafting Guide: Casting by Starcrossed

To me, Casting is one of those love it or hate it crafting professions. The reason i say that is that, the items produced by casting are so industrial. The raw materials for casting favour very specific nations such as England and Spain, and it makes it quite difficult for players of other nations to master.
For Maritime players, Casting is a godsend.
Cannons, Armour and Weapons crafted by master Casters are sort after across the whole game world. Because of the slow wear down of Cannons and Equipment overtime, player built weapons has become one of the most demanded items in game.
A well built Cannon can easily make light work of even the most well-armed pirates.

Why Storage?
Storage is probably one of the most underrated skills in the game. I say that because most people see Storage as a skill that turns various Fish caught on the sea into Fish Meat. But many people probably wont know that Storage has also two very important Passive Components to it in addition to its Active Component of preserving Fish and Food.

1) High levels of Storage reduces the rate in which your equipment wears down when sailing
2) When you are being plundered by Pirates, the amount of money and Trade Goods plundered by your opponent depends on your level of Storage.

Both of these Passive boosts makes it worthwhile to level up your Storage, especially in late game.
There are two ways to level up Storage, either by using ingredients caught when fishing, or by using ingredients gathered from Landing Areas using either the skill of Collection or Procurement.

Shipwreck Guide by OranjeBeard

Source: Shipwreck Guide

"Here is my experience with it.

First you need to find pieces of shipwreck maps.  You find them various ways, such as fishing, collecting, land battles as a reward, after trading, after completing quests.  Then use a piece, and check shipwrecks under the journal tab.  There it will tell you how many more pieces you need to complete the map.  After using the required amount of pieces, it will show you a map of where the shipwreck is, and how many stars.  The more stars the better the loot, but more damage your ship will take/higher level thieves in the ship.  Also it might tell you a required skill you will need, like archeology or something like that.

Once you know where it is, its better if you get into a fleet.  The more members you have, the easier it will be to narrow down the shipwreck.  Head toward where the map show where it is.  It will be in a specific sea, so you will have to sail around until you get to the right one.  If you have an aide, the aide will tell you if you are on a bordering sea, or in the right sea.  Once you are in the right sea, have your fleet split up.  Then use the salvage skill/or rope.  It will tell you what member of your fleet is closest to the shipwreck.  Have the other fleet members sail toward that person and split up around him.  Keep doing this until you narrow down where the shipwreck is.  The shipwreck is usually by a port.

Once you find it, the salvage skill will start raising the shipwreck.  Your boat will start taking damage.  The higher star the map, the more damage you will take.  Repair yourself, and have you fleet members repair you also(they should sail by you when you are raising it).  Eventually you will raise the ship.  Once it is at 100%, use the haul skill/or rope.  Start sailing toward the nearest port.  If for some reason the ship sinks again, use your salvage skill and repeat.

Once you are in port, you will see an option to enter shipwreck.  Make sure not to enter until all your members in your fleet are in port with you, as they will get extra goodies from the wreck.  When you are in the shipwreck, there will be treasure chests.  Some chests will be locked, so having someone who has the unlock skill would be a good idea.  Sometimes when you open a chests, thieves will appear.  The higher the star map, the higher then thief possible.  You will either get trade goods, while your members get a little extra, or an item."

Ship Cannon Guide by Starcrossed

Cannons are the most sought after item for soldiers and pirates alike.
A good set of cannons will tear through enemies and players alike, and a master Cannonsmith is a profession every guild needs.
However crafting Cannons is a labor intensive job. Most of the high-end Cannons require a lot of raw material, which can only be obtained from a handful of Ports.
These Ports, (Hamburg and Barcelona become well known as Cannon exporting Ports, and players from all over the world travel to these Ports to purchase freshly made Cannons from players.
This guide will provide a complete list of all possible player-made Cannons in the game, arranged by the Recipe books in which they come under.
The location of the Recipe books and methods of obtaining them are also listed, as well as the basic stats of all the Cannons.

Crafting Guides in UWO by Starcrossed

Source: Crafting Guides: Handicraft

Originally written by and produced by MTC and her leaders. Moved to these forums by demand and complaints of signing up for the MTC forums to view them:

Handicraft has always been one of my favourite crafting skills, because of its versatility. It can be coupled with other major crafting skills such as Cooking and Casting and significantly shorten the time to level the other two skills. It can also be complemented with skills such as Procurement and Collection, and therefore turning trash items such as Grass, Sand and Stone into highly valuable commodity.
Handicraft can be used to make trade goods such as alcohol, as well as make Gems from ore collected in Landing areas. It is also responsible for making all furniture throughout the game, and can add valuable boosts to your ship by building Head Pieces and Wooden Armours
Because Handicraft is such a versatile, each nation will have its advantages and disadvantages. Spanish players and Portuguese players will have easy access to, Wheat, Barley, Olives, Cane, Almond, and Wine, French players will have the Bordeaux to Nantes trade route as well as access to the Brewing Secrets Volume 2 from Montpellier, and Dutch and English players will have the raw materials of Lumber and other metal ore and Industrial goods from the North Sea.

Alcohol trading (accountant)
Industrial trading [optional] (mineral trader)
Cooking (food merchant, animal trader)
Handicraft (medicine trader)
Storage (food trader, fisherman, chef)
Fishing (fisherman, chef)
Either one of Procurement (fisherman, chef), Collection (fisherman, chef) or Search (basic Adventure Skill)

This type of cook combines fishing skill and cooking skill to specialize food dishes prepared using the fish caught at sea. The skill requirements and recipe requirements are much more extensive than other methods, but it does offer a different playing style.

It is essential to first change your job into a Chef from a job changing quest in Stockholm, requirements are level 5 cooking, 3000 trade fame. The quest is relatively easy to complete, simply hand in 200 Wine Steamed Cod, which can be purchased from the Clerk in Amsterdam.

If you do not have enough fame, ask a friend to help you out.

Level 1 - 5
Use the methods described in both the Portuguese and Dutch section above to reach level 5.

Level 5 - 7
(Wine + Halibut >>> Wine Steamed Halibut or Salt + Lumber + Herring >>> Smoked Herring; Wine + Cod >>> Wine steamed Cod)

Path A.
Camp on the sea outside Bordeaux, using the recipe Seafaring food from Lisbon, purchase Winefrom Bordeaux, catch Halibut outside of Bordeaux and make Wine Steamed Halibut. If you catch other fish use storage to make Fish

Path B.
Stock up on Wine from either Seville, Porto or Bordeaux. Travel to Bergen, and camp on the sea outside Bergen, using the Seafood of the North recipe from London, purchase Salt and Lumber from Bergen, and if you catch Herring, make Smoked Herring with Salt and Lumber. If you catch Cod, make Wine steamed Cod. Use storage to turn all other fish into Fish

Path A, is closer to Wine exporting ports, but you will get more fishing proficiency and cooking proficiency if you take Path B.

Level 7 - 10
(Salt + Lumber + Herring >>> Smoked Herring; Smoked Herring + Butter >>> Sautéed Smoke Herring)
Stock up on Butter from either London. Travel to Bergen, and camp on the sea outside Bergen, using the Seafood of the North recipe from London, purchase Salt and Lumber from Bergen, and if you catch Herring, make Smoked Herring with Salt and Lumber. The combine Smoked Herringwith Butter to make Sautéed Smoked Herring.

Level 10
(2 x Olive >>> Olive Oil, Olive oil + Salt + Tuna >>> Tuna Steak)
This is what you are waiting for. That dish costs under 500D to make and sells it 15k each. The dish recovers 80 vigour to all fleet and reduces fatigue by 48. It's the ideal food for soldiers, and you will never be short of a market.

Travel to Syracuse, buy Olives and Salt. Use the Seasoning Recipe book to turn Olives into Olive Oil. The recipe requires Handicraft at level 2, an easy way to get to level 2, is to purchase the Book of Pharmaceutical Preparations at Syracuse, travel to Naples, go outside, use either Search, Collection, or Procurement skill to gather Grass, use the Grass to make Basic Medicine, then returning to Syracuse when you reach level 2 in Handicraft.

Once you have a ship cargo of 50% Olive Oil and 50% Salt, sail to a small island just south east of Syracuse. Use the fishing skill to fish for Tuna (you need level 8 in Fishing) and make Tuna Steak with Olive Oil and Tuna.
Tuna can be fished just outside Syracuse or in the island directly north of Tripoli

This option is not recommended for starting out as a cook and is only really viable when you change into a Chef in Stockholm and have equipped yourself with booster items that add +1 to Fishing and Cooking, as well as a specialist cooking Aide.

Late Game

Required Recipe Books:

Caribbean Secret Dishes (San Diego, reward after 300,000D in investment)
Chef's Meat (Stockholm, reward after 600,000D in investment)
Livestock secrets - Birds Chapter (Calvi) 8000D

Required Skills:

Food trade (livestock trader, food trader)
Livestock trade (livestock trader, food trader)
Spice trade [optional] (spice trader)
Alcohol trading (accountant)
Cooking (livestock trader, food trader)
Handicraft (medicine trader)
Procurement [optional] (fisherman, chef)

Level 10 - 12
(Wheat >>> Flour; Flour + Fish + Cheese, + Seafood Pizza, Gratin with Cheese)
If you decide to specialize in Cooking in late game, it is advisable to first establish a Private Farm, level up your purchasing skills, especially Food trade, Alcohol Trade and Spice trade, as well as have level 5 in Handicraft to make Wine and Brandy.

In addition you want to have an Aide that adds +1 to cooking and food related Trade skills such as Livestock Trading, Food trading, Spice Trading or Alcohol Trading.
You also want to equip yourself with a +1 Cooking Item the Blue Butterfly Ribbon, which someone in the Guild would mostly be able to craft.

Use the level 10 recipes to level up to level 12, or use the booster items and Aide to get your cooking to level 12. Level 12 is a threshold, as you can make Wine Braised Lamb and Nuts served with Fish.

Level 12 - 14
(3 x Fish + Nut >>> Nuts served with Fish; Wine + Lamb + Rosemary >>> Wine Braised Lamb)

Path A
Use the Caribbean Secret Dishes to make Nuts served with Fish. Nuts can be obtained either through either Procurement in grassland Landing areas in Europe or from Private farms.
The recipe book is a reward from the Caribbean’s by investing 300,000D in San Diego. Fish can be purchased in large quantities in most European Ports.

Path B
The Chef's Meat recipe is acquired by investing 600,000 in Stockholm. Wine and Lamb can be purchased from Bordeaux and Nantes area, Rosemary can only be purchased from Valencia.
This method involves loading 80% of ships cargo with rosemary from Valencia, and sailing to Bordeaux and Nantes in the Bay of Biscay. Combining Wine and Lamb with Rosemary to produce Wine Braised Lamb

Level 14 - 15
(Chicken Meat + Garlic + Brandy >>> Roasted Garlic Chicken)
Using the Chef's Meat acquired from Stockholm, combine Chicken Meat produced either by butchering Chickens in Lisbon or from Faro. Garlic can be purchased from Malaga, and Spice Trading skill can come in handy here. Brandy can either be bought from Lisbon, or crafted from Wine using Handicraft skill (more on wine making in my Handicraft guide). Combine the three ingredients to make Roasted Garlic Chicken
